Dear Friends,

Since 1993, Catherine Douglass, Founder and Executive Director of Her Justice, has worked tirelessly to improve access to justice for low-income women and children in New York City.

On Thursday, the City Bar honored Cathy’s commitment by presenting her with the Kathryn A. McDonald Award, an award that is presented annually in memory of Judge McDonald who served from 1986–1995 as the administrative judge for the City’s five Family Courts.
In her more than two decades at the helm of Her Justice, Cathy has presided over the training of thousands of volunteer attorneys to represent women in Family Court and has strongly advocated for legislative reforms to improve the administration of justice.  Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance wrote in support of Cathy’s nomination for the award:
"Cathy’s vision that individual lawyers and law firms would offer pro bono services in pursuit of this goal is an example of how one person can make a difference.  She has made great strides in ensuring that justice is accessible to all, no matter their situation in life."
In her acceptance of the award, Cathy shared the honor with the entire staff of Her Justice, as well as the thousands of volunteer lawyers—“the amazing team who live and breathe our mission every day.”
